Erin-Kate Escobar, Assistant Director at the Caltech Center for Inclusion and Diversity gave a 1 hr long seminar aimed at addressing diversity statements for postdocs applying for faculty positions.

The learning outcomes are as follows 

  • 1. Define what diversity statements are and methods to approach writing one 
  • 2. Take away some new ideas to incorporate best practices towards more inclusive classrooms
  • 3. Know more about your own personal philosophy


Monique Thomas, Program Coordinator at Caltech Center for Inclusion and Diversity and Leo Green, Postdoctoral Scholar in bioengineering at Caltech facilitated an hour-long workshop which is the first program in our Black Wealth summer series.

In the early 20th Century, the Greenwood neighborhood of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was referred to as Black Wall Street. It was a prosperous, African-American community. That would all end in violence during the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.  Watch the video to learn more.
